Johnny O. Epps of Chambersburg had been in the westbound turning lane of Lincoln Way West when he suddenly switched directions to go into the eastbound turning lane— apparently attempting to turn into the convenience store near Mercersburg Road, according to state police.

That's when Troy L. Wolf, 59, of Gardners's Volvo struck Epps head-on — causing his pick-up to spin out twice, the police explained.

Wolf's Volvo exited the road by the east lanes, struck a utility pole, then continued and struck a car parked outside of the convenience store, according to the release.

Airborne debris from the crash hit a fourth car and damaged the gas pumps at the store's gas station, the police detailed.

Epps was the only person harmed, but unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital after the crash around 5:24 p.m. on Monday, state police said.

No one has been charged in connection with the deadly crash as of 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
